Pendleton welcomes new Family Readiness Center

2009-06-12

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — 6/8/2009

With more than 40 years in service, the San Luis Rey Officer’s Club closed its doors only to re-open as the new Marine Corps Family Team Building Readiness Center, June 5.

The ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted by Marine Corps Community Services, included the presence of Annette Conway, wife of the Commandant of the Marine Corps, who took the opportunity to discuss many family readiness subjects with spouses and staff from MCFTB.

The new facility is intended to provide its 13 staff members the necessary tools to support Marines, sailors and their families during these increased deployment times.

“The center will offer space to accommodate MCFTB programs and training, unit readiness support, meeting spaces, on-site child care and a dedicated L.I.N.K.S. house,” said Meghan Jones, director, Marine Corps Family Team Building.

The Lifestyle, Insight, Networking, Knowledge and Skills program enables service members and families to understand the military community and the unique lifestyle it offers.

Jones also said that Camp Pendleton has never had a center like this one before and with the consolidation of the clubs, the new center will provide the infrastructure needed to accomplish the mission.

Until now, the staff has shared a single classroom and small storage facility. The new center has the potential to host multiple presentations simultaneously, thereby increasing MCFTB capabilities.

Many changes had to be done in the re-arranging process. The large commercial kitchen was dismantled, the main dining areas were converted into office spaces and the bar area is now the L.I.N.K.S. house which now will serve as a meeting place for family members.

Marine Corps Family Team Building will be hosting a Spouses' Learning Series event on June 26 at their new location with motivational speaker Jacey Eckhart who is a motivational expert, military columnist and author of The Home Front Club. This is a free event and is open to all spouses.
