Courtesy of USA.gov The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded block grant program that is implemented at the state/territory and tribal level. LIHEAP has been operating since 1982 and its purpose is to assist low-income households, particularly those with the lowest incomes that use a large portion of their income to pay for their immediate energy needs. LIHEAP can help families in a variety of ways including financial assistance with paying their energy bill, emergency assistance if the home's energy is shut off and other state-specific assistance.
